He was the first person to formally teach me about M.O.N.E.Y.
I owe a lot of my financial education to him.
So here is the back story....
I came to the UK at the age of 18 having moved here from Ghana in West Africa. One of the things I realised I had to learn very quickly was how to manage my finances as this was my first time living away from home.At the time the internet was not as developed as it is today where at the click of a button you could have access to a plethora of knowledge & information. I had to turn to books & financial articles to beef up my knowledge on money and how to manage it. I remember walking into my local corner shop one autumn weekend and the bona fide fashionista in me naturally gravitated to the section that stocked fashion magazines BUT God clearly had a surprise up His sovereign sleeve. At the time I was desperate for knowledge on how to create a personal budget I could stick to as I had tried other budget plans recommended in books but they were not very practical and I couldn't stick to their complicated plans for very long.Whilst flipping through the pages of one of the fashion & lifestyle magazines on the shelf, I stumbled upon what would quickly become a treasure trove of knowledge on personal finance in my life as I have read that column EVERY single month to date since I was 18 years old.
Now here is the interesting back story...
That finance column was actually written personally by one of the UK's most recognised & highly sought after finance gurus...the Managing Director & Founder of "The Sterling & Law Group" which is an independent financial consulting firm based here in the City of London(who is pictured in the image above).Prior to setting up "The Sterling & Law Group" he worked with Lloyds Bank here in the UK as one of their top consultants before he left to found "The Sterling & Law Group" in 1997. He is viewed as a financial planning strategist and well known for his contribution to programmes on financial matters with the BBC on Radio 5 Live. His prowess at writing financial articles which breaks down complicated financial knowledge into simple bit sized pieces that are practical & easily implementable is what is so commendable about him. I have taken some crucial financial decisions based on his financial articles & for that I am so very grateful!!!
It's been said that "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". That is what he has contributed to my life...a solid grounding in financial education just by reading his financial articles.
This week on my "Fabulosity of February" series on my blog, I will focus on "Personal Finance". I have curated some of his best articles that have served me so well over the years and will be sharing that on the blog. So do stay tuned!!! You will be tremendously blessed. Trust me on that!!!
